GLOUCESTER, NC, POSTMASTERS: 1904-1968

Gloucester Post Office was established in 1904. It has been in continuous operation since that time. The post office needing a unique name to distinquish it from the Straits Post Office, local belief is that Capt. Joe Pigott at this time gave the community the name of Gloucester after the town of the same name in Massachuetts. Thus the community of Gloucester and it's post office were officially born although the community had been in existence for approximately 200 years before that.
