Well folks, it's getting that time of year again to start making plans to attend the Annual Pigott Reunion. This year's reunion will be our TENTH!! And special plans are in the works to make it the best ever. We'll be traveling back to the little community of Gloucester in Carteret County, North Carolina, where our ancestors put down roots in the early 1700's. Although, it has changed somewhat over the past 50 years, it is still a small quiet rural community with much of the charm of the olden days. And although there are many newcomers, many of the old families still have descendents in the area, including the Pigotts, Chadwicks, Stewarts, Gillikins, Nelsons, Whitehursts, Fulfords, etc. For those interested in family history and genealogy, this is THE place to come. You'll find many many small family cemeteries along the roads and off the roads. Many of the old homes are still standing. Some are over two hundred years old. The Carteret County Courthouse in Beaufort has thousands of old records pertaining to our ancestors. One could spend months going through the information housed there. The Carteret County Historical Society in Morehead City has many interesting artifacts showing how our ancestors lived; and many books and maps concerning the heritage of the area. This is where the first Pigotts to settle in Charleston, SC, originally came from. Two of those brothers are buried in Gloucester - one in the Pigott Family Cemetery and one in the churchyard. Their two sisters who lived in the Charleston area for a while are also buried here - again, one in the family cemetery and one in the churchyard. In fact, all but one of the original nine brothers and sisters are buried in this aea. The family also has ties to the small towns of Beaufort and Morehead City. And there are many interesting things to see and do in those towns.
There is no need to twist the arms of those familiar with the area to be sure to do everything possible to attend this year's reunion. For those who are not familiar with the area or who haven't been here in many many years, you owe it to yourselves and your children to make every effort to attend this year's reunion. | |||||||||

| PICNIC SATURDAY - Eloise Pigott's Home - Gloucester | |||||||||
| Old fashioned family picnic at the home of Eloise Pigott on the waterfront in Gloucester. Eloise has a LARGE yard with plenty of room for the entire clan. She has a lovely home overlooking The Straits (that part of Core Sound between the mainland and Harkers Island and Brown's Island). The Straits has played a large part in the livelihood of our ancestors for hundreds of years. Time to be announced.
Other things to see and do in and around Gloucester:
Visit Straits United Methodist Church - this is the church our ancestors attended for over two hundred years. See the beautiful stained glass windows memorializing our ancestors. Beside the church is a cemetery where many ancestors and relatives are buried. See some of the homes where our ancestors and relatives lived. Visit Crow Hill where the Carteret County Militia trained during the Revolutionary War. Crow Hill was the home of Col. Thomas Chadwick. It was through Col. Chadwick that a number of Pigott descendents have entered the Daughters of the American Revolution. Take a side trip over to Cape Lookout and see the lighthouse. Our ancestors donated the land where the lighthouse stands to the U. S. Government for that purpose. Our ancestors used to capture whales off the shore. Visit the surrounding communities of Smyrna and Marshallberg, home to many ancestors and relatives. |
