When you first go out to the Message Board, you will see a screen similar to that below. This is known as the Ripples Across The Years Forum Index scrfeen. The main divisions of this screen are:
The GENERAL category is for posting things of a general nature that are not specific to a particular family website.
You will notice when you first enter the Message Board, only the Forums in the General Category are visable. Clicking on a Category title will 'open' that cagtegory and close the others. This makes it much easier to find the Category/Forum you are interested in.
All of the Forums in the family name categories are the same: Announcements, Storyboard Updates, and Queries.
The Storyboard Updates Forum should be used to let others know when you have added/updated/deleted a story on the Storyboard. The Queries Forum is for posting queries about the Ripples Across The Years families, allied families and other things pertaining to the fhese families.
Each Forum is divided into Topics ("threads" on other types of boards). Messages, and replies to messages, are posted under the Topics. All registered users may open topics. Topics should be opened ONLY if a suitable topic does not already exist. Topic subjects should be short, but specific. They should readily identify information you are requesting or supplying. For example:
If the person you are inquiring about is NOT in one of the Family Trees, you should still follow the name format, but append the state (e.g. (Florida) ) after the name. The state should be the state where the person in question spent most of their life. Generic topics such as 'Need Help' or 'Searching for grandparents' are NOT ACCEPTABLE. You may add New Topics at this level by clicking on 'New Topic'. Sometimes you may find a forum locked. That means this is a 'closed' forum and no new topices may be added.
Underneath each topic are the actual messages that apply to the topic. If the topic is not 'locked', you may add new messages to the topic by clicking on 'Add Reply'. You may also add a new topic by clicking on 'New Topic'.
Across the top of each page, below the logo, you will see the menu strip. Clicking on one of the subjects will take you to the screen for that subject. Note: the last subject will be either 'Log in' if you have not yet done so; or 'Log out [username]' if you are already logged in. 'Register' will appear only if you have not yet registered for the Message Board.
